What is the reason for the swelling of the uvula after a cold spell?

If the patient has symptoms such as redness and swelling of the uvula, pain and painful swallowing, suspicion of uvulitis may be raised and the patient may be treated with oral medication under medical supervision.
If the patient has high fever, difficulty in opening the mouth and radiating pain in the ear or teeth, a peri-tonsillar abscess may be suspected and a visit to the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Department is recommended. Anti-infection, fluid replacement and, if necessary, puncture to extract or incision to drain the pus should be carried out under medical supervision.
