What should I do if my child has a bad cough in bed at night?

A child’s strong cough at night in bed is commonly due to two conditions: first, cough variant asthma. Oral procaterol, terbutaline, and salbutamol can be given as diagnostic treatment for 1-2 weeks. Relief of cough symptoms helps in the diagnosis, and once the diagnosis is clear, long-term standardized treatment should be given according to asthma, choosing inhaled glucocorticoid budesonide, oral cisplatin, or a combination of both for at least eight weeks. Second, for gastroesophageal reflux cough, cimetidine and morpholine are advocated, and omeprazole may also be used in older children. Changing the position to a semi-recumbent or prone forward 30 degrees, changing the nature of food, using more solid or thick food for dinner, and small and frequent meals are effective for treatment. Do not drink water, cola and other beverages before bedtime.
