What is pancreatic tumor?

Xiao Yu (pseudonym), a 25-year-old northeastern girl, is a kind and introverted girl who has just finished her school internship and is ready to start working. Her boyfriend Xiaodong (pseudonym) has been in love with Xiaoyu for many years and is planning to get married in the near future. However, the moment she got the medical report, Xiaoyu’s mood was devastated, the abdominal CT suggested that there was a tumor on her pancreas. Xiao Yu is very confused, usually she is very healthy, even cold and fever rarely, why for no reason there is a tumor on the pancreas? Could it be cancer? Will it be life-threatening? The company’s main business is to provide a wide range of products and services to the public. The problem must be seen by an authoritative expert! A chance opportunity, Xiaoyu learned that a friend’s relative is a tumor on the pancreas, in Shanghai Cancer Hospital for surgery, and is Professor Yu Xian F. Xiaodong immediately accompanied Xiaoyu to Shanghai from the northeast to see the doctor. In Professor Yu’s clinic, Xiaoyu was very emotional, “Professor Yu, can my problem be seen in the end? I’m not even married, so why would I have such a serious problem?” Professor Yu carefully looked at Xiao Yu’s CT film and comforted her with confidence, “Little girl, you may have a solid pseudopapillary tumor in the body of the pancreas, this kind of tumor is especially common in young women, and it has malignant potential. Don’t worry, I will personally operate on you to ensure that you will be discharged from the hospital in peace, get married and have children with your boyfriend!” Xiaodong and Xiaoyu were in tears of excitement, and after a few days of pre-operative checkups, Xiaoyu was ready for surgery, with Director Yu in charge. Xiaodong dragged Director Yu at the door of the operating room and said, “Director, please, she must live longer than me!” Before the anesthesia, Xiaoyu quietly told Director Yu: “Director Yu, tell me the truth, can this disease be good? If not, I don’t want to treat it. My boyfriend is paying for it, and he just started working, so it’s not easy to make money. Director Yu reassured her, “I gave you my word, I will do it!” The operation went very smoothly, and Director Yu led the team to help Xiaoyu do a caudal resection of the pancreatic neck body with preservation of the spleen. Xiaoyu recovered very quickly after the operation and was discharged from the hospital in 5 days. The true love of Xiaodong and Xiaoyu touched every medical staff in the department, and we sincerely wish them a happy and safe life! The postoperative pathology showed that Xiaoyu had a solid-pseudopapillary tumor of pancreas (SPT), which is a benign or low-grade malignant tumor with malignant potential, with a low incidence of 0.2%-2.7% of pancreatic tumors. SPT does not originate from pancreatic tissue, but possibly from cells associated with the germinal ridge-ovarian primordium that is connected to the pancreatic primordium during embryogenesis, and therefore is more common in female patients. Statistics show that more than 90% of patients with SPT are young women. Diagnosis and treatment of SPT Pathological diagnosis is the gold standard for the diagnosis of SPT. Although some patients present with clinical symptoms, these symptoms are mild and nonspecific, so the diagnosis is often delayed and the tumor size is often more than 10 cm at the time of consultation. enhanced CT is helpful for the diagnosis of SPT, determination of surgical resectability, and selection of surgical approach. SPT is well-defined on CT presentation, showing a cystic-solid phase, often located outside the contour of the pancreas, and calcified foci are visible within the lesion. The solid portion of the arterial phase is enhanced to varying degrees after enhancement, which is progressive and visible as envelope enhancement. Surgery is the only definitive and effective treatment for SPT, and is selected based on the size, location, and invasion or metastasis of the patient’s lesion. The prognosis of SPT is good, and some reports indicate that its 5-year survival rate after surgery is more than 95%.
