How is an external hernia treated?

Extra-abdominal hernias must be treated surgically to heal, except for some people, such as infants and young children under one year of age who can be treated without surgery for the time being, using a bandage to press down on the hernia ring, with the possibility of self-healing as they grow; those with contraindications to surgery such as advanced age or with other serious illnesses can be treated with a hernia belt. The most effective treatment for other patients is surgical, including traditional hernia repair and tension-free hernia repair.
