Functional constipation in newborns is usually caused by poor feeding and there are no reports of a genetic link to functional constipation in newborns. In contrast, organic constipation in newborns is usually associated with certain disorders, some of which have a clear genetic predisposition, such as congenital megacolon, a polygenic genetic disorder, and anorectal malformations, which are also genetically linked.
