The symptoms of nasal congestion and cough in children are caused by colds. The disease can be triggered by various causes that lower the systemic or local defense function of the respiratory tract, such as cold, rain, sudden climatic changes, and excessive fatigue, which can cause the rapid multiplication of viruses or bacteria already present in the upper respiratory tract or invaded from outside. Clinical treatment of colds requires rest, antipyretic and analgesic drugs for fever and pain, and decongestants, antihistamines and cough suppressants for upper respiratory tract symptoms. For the nasal congestion and cough that accompany a cold, which can generally be prolonged, parents can choose the following methods to reduce the symptoms. (1) Water vapor fumigation, a cup of boiling water, let the child inhale the water vapor slowly and evenly with the mouth and nose near the mouth of the cup (note that rapid and loud inhalation will aggravate the cough) to keep the respiratory tract moist and help relieve the cough, do it twice a day. (2) Nasal mucous membrane congestion can easily cause nasal congestion, you can use vinegar dipped in it to rub the nasal cavity. (3) For dry cough or yellow phlegm, you can use steamed snow pear with rock sugar and Sichuan scallop to stop cough and dissolve phlegm. (4) If the sputum is white and thin, or there is cold, you can boil ginger and honey water to expel cold and stop cough. (5) Pay attention to rest, keep the air in the environment fresh, change the position frequently, drink more water and supplement a lot of vitamin C, etc. (6) Patting your child’s back for 15 minutes a day can also effectively reduce coughing. It often takes about a week or even longer for the upper respiratory tract symptoms to subside, so parents should not be overly nervous and should not use drugs indiscriminately, especially antibiotics under the guidance of a doctor.
