Can bladder tumors come back after removal?

Recurrence is possible after bladder tumor removal, but it varies from person to person. Studies have shown that the recurrence rate of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer is 50% to 70%. Bladder tumors contain benign and malignant tumors, with malignant tumors being more common. For benign tumors, surgical resection is usually given, and some patients need to be combined with bladder perfusion therapy, which can usually be cured after standardized treatment, and a study in China said that there was no tumor recurrence, cancer or metastasis in the follow-up of this group (46 cases). For the malignant tumor of bladder, i.e. bladder cancer, which is the malignant tumor with the highest incidence rate in the urinary system, its prognosis is related to the pathological type, stage, patients’ own situation (age, smoking history, etc.), and treatment plan. At present, the treatment of bladder cancer is mainly based on surgical treatment, especially for muscle invasive bladder tumors, total cystectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection is often used in clinic, supplemented with various treatment options such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but 50% to 70% of patients still have recurrence within 5 years after surgery. It has also been reported that after bladder tumor resection combined with intravesical instillation chemotherapy, its 1-year tumor recurrence rate is about 30%, while the 2-year recurrence rate is about 60%. Among them, pathological grading, pathological type, patient’s age, etc. are closely related to tumor recurrence. Bladder cancer patients should pay attention to it. If bladder tumor is suspected or diagnosed, it is recommended to go to regular hospitals for comprehensive assessment of the condition, follow the doctor’s instructions to cooperate with the treatment, and choose the appropriate treatment plan so as not to delay the condition.
