For moderate to severe dry eyes, or if artificial tear replacement therapy is ineffective, or if there are other underlying diseases, oral medications such as cyclopentethione, maurobrine, neostigmine, low concentrations of glucocorticoids and sex hormone replacement therapy can be used under medical supervision; oral antibiotics can be given at the same time if there is an infection, and oral immunosuppressants are needed if there is an immune disease.
