Middle ear disorders such as cholesteatoma require early surgical removal of the lesion and simultaneous repair of the tympanic membrane and other tissues to restore the air-containing chamber of the middle ear, both to speed up the dry ear process and to create the conditions for second-stage procedures such as artificial hearing bone implantation, so this is the surgical approach I use more often nowadays. So how do I recover after discharge from the hospital? 1. If there is still filling material in the cavity, it must be flushed out or aspirated at the follow-up appointment 3-4 weeks after surgery. 2.After removing the stuffing material, you should take ear drops and appropriate amount of oral antibiotics and mucus promoter, which will be prescribed at the follow-up consultation. 3. Do not take a flight within 3 months, and do not enter water in the operated ear. 4. Some patients may experience a loss of taste in the tongue on the operated side after surgery, which is due to the bulbar nerve being located in the operated area.
