Can pregnant women drink water before the glucose tolerance?

Pregnant women are not allowed to drink water for 12 hours prior to the glucose tolerance test and need to remain fasting. Pregnant women are usually screened for gestational diabetes at 24-28 weeks of gestation. The test usually starts with the measurement of fasting blood glucose, which is normally less than 5.1 mmol/L, less than 10.0 mmol/L for 1 hour and less than 8.5 mmol/L for 2 hours after drinking 75 g of glucose. if the results of the three tests are within the normal range, it means that the glucose tolerance is normal. Gestational diabetes is diagnosed if any of the three tests above meet or exceed the criteria. Diagnosed gestational diabetes patients should control their sugar intake in their diet and exercise moderately for about half an hour after three meals. If the pregnant woman’s blood sugar is still not controlled through diet control and proper exercise, she needs to follow medical advice to lower her sugar through insulin. It is recommended that pregnant women should not be too nervous before the examination, and try to keep a stable mood and ensure sufficient sleep. The diet during pregnancy should be reasonable, with a combination of meat and vegetables, comprehensive nutrition, and timely maternity checkups.
