Blepharoplasty Frequently Asked Questions

Is it better to have wider or narrower eyelids?     This depends on a person’s face shape, the width of the eyebrow arch to the lid margin (i.e., the width of the upper eyelid), the depth of the eye socket, the thickness of the upper lid, and other factors. Oriental people have narrow upper eyelids, flat eye sockets, low eyebrow arches and thick upper lids, so double eyelids should not be made too wide, usually 5-7 mm is appropriate.     What is wrong with wide eyelids? The first is that the artificial traces are obvious, the appearance is unnatural and false, people will know that they have been done; the second is that it is easy to cause eye opening effort and fatigue; the third is that after the double eyelids are too wide the eye fissure is small, that is, the eyes are not open, resulting in traumatic ptosis. What are the advantages of having narrower eyelids? Narrower eyelids often look very natural and realistic, so you can’t tell they were made. With narrower eyelids, the eyelid can be fully opened, so in case it is not ideal, it is easy to modify and there is a way back without any negative consequences. Can a single pair of eyes be made into double eyelids? The answer is yes. If the natural double eyelid of this eye is ideal, then use it as the standard and change the single eyelid on the opposite side into a double eyelid that is symmetrical with it. If the natural eyelid is not ideal or is very shallow, it is best to operate on both sides at the same time so that a more symmetrical and consistent eyelid can be obtained. What should I pay attention to before and after double eyelid surgery? If there are infections around the eyes such as folliculitis, active acne, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and severe trachoma, you need to wait until these lesions are cured before scheduling the surgery. After surgery, the wound will be left exposed, kept dry, and not exposed to water, and only cold compresses will be applied for 48 hours. There may be slight swelling for 3-5 days after surgery, no need to be apprehensive about it, it will gradually improve after 3 days, and it will be better after the folding line. Women should not operate during their menstrual period, and it is safer to operate within 3 days before and after menstruation. What is the modification time for unsatisfactory double eyelid? If the postoperative period is accompanied by serious complications, it is best to revise within 1 week to 1 month after surgery. Generally unsatisfactory results should be better revised after 6 months to 1 year after surgery.
