How big is the average lipoma?

Lipomas are benign tumors that usually occur under the skin and are usually about 1cm in size. Lipomas are considered large at around 5cm and require surgical removal. Lipomas are common benign soft tissue tumors of unknown etiology, composed of mature adipose tissue. Lipomas occur in the limbs and trunk, soft texture, generally does not pose a threat to the patient’s life, but only affect the aesthetic appearance of the body. When the tumor is too large and compresses the peripheral nerves, it can produce numbness and pain. Lipoma grows slowly and generally does not need to be treated, only need to pay attention to observation and regular review. When the lipoma exceeds 5cm, if it affects the aesthetics or if there are symptoms of compression or dysfunction, then surgery can be chosen to remove it.
