Itching in the elderly is usually more common in winter and has a higher incidence in women than men. It may be related to ageing of the skin, weakening of the stratum corneum, lack of sebum, and due to the application of various medications, with dry skin being a common trigger.
Itching is usually physiological, but if it is accompanied by skin lesions or other discomforts such as weakness, wasting, or difficulty breathing you need to consult a medical professional for help.
