The etiology of the disease is unclear, and most are currently thought to be caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. For example, juvenile papillomas may be associated with HPV infection in the mother’s reproductive system, while adult papillomas can be associated with latent HPV infection in early childhood or an unclean lifestyle. Chronic inflammatory irritation of the throat and endocrine disorders may also have a relationship with the disease.
