Don’t let misdiagnosis delay the treatment of osteonecrosis of the femur

Femoral head necrosis is a serious clinical orthopedic disease, but because its early symptoms are not obvious, it is very easy to misdiagnose and miss diagnosis. The main symptoms of osteonecrosis include: weakness of lower limbs, coldness in lower limbs, pain in the lower back, pain in the hip, pain in the knee joint, unfavorable hip flexion and extension, difficulty in squatting, inability to stand for a long time, duck walking, and limping. Some of these symptoms may be ignored by patients, and some may be misdiagnosed as other diseases. Experts remind patients that femoral head necrosis has a high chance of being misdiagnosed because the clinical symptoms are similar to some diseases. These diseases are: lumbar intervertebral herniation with back and leg pain; hip synovitis with pain and swelling of the hip joint; rheumatoid arthritis with recurrent joint pain and swelling; ankylosing spondylitis, etc. The early symptoms of osteonecrosis of the femoral head are not obvious, sometimes sporadic, and the location of the onset is not in the hip, so it is easy to be ignored by patients, and less experienced doctors may miss the subtle differences between the disease and other diseases, thus wrongly diagnosing the patient’s condition. Patients who delay too long may miss the best time for pre-treatment, bringing lifelong regrets.
