Introduction of a treatment for cervical pregnancy – immediate post-UAE curettage

Cervical pregnancy is a special type of ectopic pregnancy in which a fertilized egg is implanted in the cervical canal and grows there. Cervical pregnancy can present with fatal hemorrhage and in severe cases requires hysterectomy. The incidence of cervical pregnancy has increased significantly, especially in recent years with the massive use of assisted reproductive technologies With the widespread use of gynecologic ultrasound, early diagnosis of cervical pregnancy has become possible. Treatment tends to be conservative in order to minimize the adverse effects on the reproductive function of women of childbearing age. There are several conservative treatment options, among which uterine artery embolization (UAE) has become an accepted technique for rapid and effective control of hemorrhage in the conservative management of cervical pregnancy.
