A biparietal diameter of 9.8cm is on the large side, close to macrosomia, and may cause obstructed labor. Biparietal diameter refers to the distance between the two parietal bulges of the fetus, which is the largest transverse diameter of the fetal head, and is usually examined by ultrasonography in the middle and late stages of pregnancy. Biparietal diameter corresponds to different ranges at different gestational weeks. At 37-39 weeks of gestation, the range of biparietal diameter is 9.11-9.75cm, and at 40 weeks of gestation, the range of biparietal diameter is 9.76-9.96cm, therefore, the biparietal diameter of 9.8cm belongs to the large range. When the fetal biparietal diameter is >10cm, it is considered a macrosomic fetus, which may cause obstructed labor. A biparietal diameter of 9.8cm is close to 10cm, and it is recommended that a review be conducted to assess whether vaginal delivery or cesarean section is appropriate to terminate the pregnancy if there is a possibility of macrosomia developing.
