Best time to use silicone gel

Silicone gel is usually most effective when applied within 7 days after a new wound has healed; if applied before the wound has healed, it may lead to infection. Silicone gel is used clinically for the prevention and treatment of burns, wounds, and proliferative scars on the skin surface after various surgical procedures. For newly healed wounds, it can block the evaporation of water vapor from the scar surface and play a role similar to that of a skin cuticle to control scar proliferation. For old scars, it can increase the permeability of water-soluble proteins and low-molecular-weight water-soluble inflammatory mixtures within the scar, thus spreading to the scar surface and decreasing fluid pressure, softening and maturing the scar. However, silicone gel can only play a supplementary therapeutic role for scar care. If you want to treat and improve the scars completely, you need to combine it with other treatments such as laser and surgery. If the patient has a large scar, it is recommended to ask the relevant professional physician in the burn department of the hospital to give the best treatment plan to minimize the harm of the scar and thus achieve a better treatment effect.
