There are often patients who visit outpatient clinic with physical examination report form, without any symptoms, but only a certain tumor marker is found to be elevated in physical examination, the patients look very panic and ask eagerly: Doctor, do I have tumor? When tumor markers are found to be elevated, don’t panic. Remember three words: elevated tumor markers do not necessarily mean you have tumor; tumor markers are not necessarily high when you have tumor; tumor markers should not be high in normal people. Tumor marker elevation does not necessarily mean you have tumor: many benign diseases, such as polyps, inflammation, effusion, etc. some tumor markers will be elevated. Having tumor, tumor markers are not necessarily high: many patients with advanced tumor have tumor markers that are not necessarily high. Tumor markers should not be high in normal people: After the tumor markers are elevated, you should seek medical attention in time, consult experienced doctors and ask detailed questions about past history, family history and whether there are any bad habits. If the tumor markers are still high, we should do some tests selectively. After the diagnosis of tumor is basically ruled out, we should review the tumor markers regularly in one hospital, if they do not continue to increase, we can basically rule out malignant diseases, if they continue to increase, we should do the corresponding tests carefully again.
