Basic treatment procedures for epilepsy

Epilepsy is a group of diseases and syndromes caused by multiple etiologies, characterized by recurrent sudden abnormal discharges of neurons in the brain leading to seizures of central nervous system dysfunction. Basic diagnosis and treatment procedures: 1. Patients are first diagnosed with seizure disorders of motor, sensory, autonomic, consciousness and mental status, or both. The diagnosis of epilepsy is supported by medical history, physical examination, and ancillary findings. 3, otherwise other diagnoses are given appropriate treatment or further investigations. If yes, the next step is to make a classification diagnosis of epilepsy, determine the type and/or syndrome of epilepsy, and the presence of causes of seizures (e.g., cranial tumor, encephalitis, etc.). 4. Pharmacological treatment: (1) Non-pharmacological treatment: patient education, improvement of lifestyle, etc. (2) Surgical treatment: epilepsy focal resection or palliative surgery.
