Indications for gastrostomy are: ① major oral, facial, pharyngeal, and laryngeal surgery requiring longer-term nutritional support ② various neurological diseases resulting in long-term or longer-term loss of swallowing function, inability to feed nutrition orally or intranasally, swallowing difficulties due to various myopathies, and complete inability to eat with anorexia nervosa; ③ severe malnutrition due to systemic diseases requiring nutritional support, but unable to tolerate surgical fistula ④ Those who have difficulty in eating due to trauma or tumor; ⑤ Those with esophageal perforation, esophageal-tracheal fistula or various benign or malignant tumors causing esophageal obstruction. Compared with nasogastric tube feeding, gastrostomy is better tolerated by patients, with lower rate of reflux and secondary infection than nasogastric tube and longer retention time. The perioperative period of oral and maxillofacial tumors, the difficulty of eating during radiotherapy, and the pain of eating through the mouth, can be solved by performing percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, which can be done under local anesthesia, and is a more mature technique with less trauma and fewer complications. The Department of Gastroenterology of Shanghai Jiuyuan Hospital relies on the strong surgical technical strength of the Department of Oral Surgery of Shanghai Jiuyuan Hospital to solve the painful feeding problems for patients with oral tumor diseases.
