What are the dangers of systemic lupus erythematosus?

The danger of SLE is that as the disease progresses, it can lead to multi-system and multi-organ damage, which can be life-threatening in serious cases. Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune inflammatory connective tissue disease, in which a large number of autoantibodies can be produced in the patient’s blood serum and lead to immune dysfunction, which in turn causes damage to multiple systems, organs and tissues throughout the body, and if the disease is not treated in time, as it progresses, it can gradually involve the heart, kidneys, brain, lungs, and other organs, and lead to injuries, such as lupus nephritis and lupus encephalopathy, and so on. SLE can be life-threatening when the condition is serious, and it brings huge economic and psychological burden to patients and their families. However, with the improvement of medical technology, the disease has been transformed into a chronic and controllable disease, and the common treatment is medication, such as glucocorticosteroids (e.g., Prednisone) and anti-rheumatic drugs (e.g., Hydroxychloroquine, Leflunomide, etc.). SLE patients are advised to go to the rheumatology and immunology department of regular hospitals for detailed consultation, follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized diagnosis and treatment, and do not use medication on their own.
