Among the multiple cases of murdered doctors, ENT doctors have the highest percentage, so why did it lead to the murder of so many doctors? How heartbreaking it is! As an otolaryngologist, I feel very shocked and frightened. A careful analysis of several cases revealed that there were 2 cases of being killed due to deviated nasal septum surgery. So why did the patients go so crazy after the septum surgery? What exactly is the reason? Patients with deviated nasal septum have long had poor sleep quality because of nasal congestion, and their expectations of surgery are too high. They always think that they can have a good sleep after surgery, but after surgery, the ventilation and drainage of the nasal cavity is changed, the nasal cavity becomes wide, and the direct stimulation of air causes the patient to not accept the feeling immediately, and they will feel very uncomfortable, and they will not be able to meet the patient’s preoperative expectations, thus creating a lot of dissatisfaction with the surgeon. This is the motive that causes the patient’s madness. It is not because the surgeon failed in surgery. The “empty nose syndrome” rumored on WeChat is the cause of the patient’s madness. The so-called “empty nose syndrome” is a series of symptoms that cause discomfort in the nose and throat due to overly wide nasal cavity, change in nasal airflow path, and reduced function of nasal mucosa after surgery. Therefore, the surgery requires the operator to pay attention to protect the mucosa of the nasal cavity at all times, especially the middle and lower turbinates must be handled carefully. Excessive removal of the lower turbinates is the main cause of empty nose syndrome, and the popular plasma ablation, microwave and laser procedures in recent years have caused excessive loss of the mucosa of the lower turbinates, resulting in hypofunction of the nasal mucosa. Therefore, in order to prevent empty nasal syndrome, the nasal mucosa should be protected during surgery. In addition to the correct choice of surgical method, the effective prevention of excessive bleeding during surgery, the use of absorbable and moisturizing filling materials after surgery, and the cleaning of the nasal cavity after surgery should not be too frequent, all of which can effectively prevent this phenomenon from occurring.
