High monocyte value refers to the absolute value of monocytes in peripheral blood of adults >0.8×10^9/L. There are many common causes, such as herpes simplex, systemic lupus erythematosus, mononuclear cell leukemia, and so on.
1. mononucleosis: mostly caused by EBV infection, it is an acute, self-limited disease, often with irregular fever, pharyngitis, lymph node enlargement, etc. Increased monocyte values can be seen in laboratory tests.
2. systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE): chronic diffuse connective tissue disease of the whole body, a large number of autoantibodies can appear in the body, so that the immune system attacks its own tissues, and a large number of tissue injuries can cause an increase in the value of monocytes.
3. Leukemia: For example, mononuclear cell leukemia, generally due to hematopoietic stem cell abnormalities, monocyte values can be seen in the blood or bone marrow increased significantly.
There may be other reasons for high monocyte values, such as infants, children, and mid- to late-pregnancy may also cause high monocyte values, which are mostly physiologic. If high monocyte values are found, it is recommended to complete the examination, identify the cause of the disease and standardize the treatment.
