There is no such thing as “which is more accurate, bone age or growth hormone”, as there are differences in the indicators that bone age and growth hormone can reflect.
Growth hormone is a peptide hormone secreted by the pituitary gland. Lack of growth hormone in early childhood can cause dwarfism, excessive growth hormone can cause gigantism, and excessive secretion of growth hormone in adulthood can cause acromegaly. Therefore, growth hormone is used to assist in the diagnosis of giantism, dwarfism, acromegaly and other diseases.
Bone age reflects the degree of bone maturity. Bone age is generally used to check whether children’s growth and development are lagging behind or ahead of other children of the same age, and to find out whether there is any pathologic growth abnormality as early as possible.
If abnormal growth and development occurs, it is recommended to go to the hospital and ask the doctor to make a judgment based on his/her own condition and choose the most appropriate index for examination.
