Does it matter if you have 9mm gallbladder stones?

A 9mm gallbladder stone is not important if there are no symptoms and can be observed and followed up; if there are symptoms then surgery is required. The main component of gallbladder stones is cholesterol, and they are mainly seen in adults, with a gradual increase in incidence after the age of 40. Symptoms of gallbladder stones include biliary colic, abdominal pain, and jaundice. Asymptomatic gallbladder stones in children and adults can be observed and followed up, and prophylactic cholecystectomy is usually not performed. Gallbladder stones require surgery if there is a large number of stones that are larger than 2 cm in diameter, if there is calcification of the gallbladder wall or a porcelain gallbladder, if there are gallbladder polyps, which should be operated on regardless of the size of the polyps, or if there is chronic cholecystitis. For symptomatic gallbladder stones, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the preferred treatment. Please seek medical attention if you feel unwell.
