Treatment of unclosed foramen ovale in adults needs to be based on symptoms. If it does not cause clinical symptoms, generally no special treatment is needed; if it causes clinical symptoms, surgical treatment or interventional therapy needs to be considered.
1. Continuous observation: If the patient is not found to be causing clinical symptoms, continuous observation is usually needed and no special treatment is required.
2. Interventional therapy: Generally, it is suitable for cerebral embolism without closure of the foramen ovale with unknown cause, combined with TIA with unknown cause or intracranial ischemic lesion or extracranial thromboembolism with unknown cause.
3. Surgery: Surgery is not the first choice for treatment of patent foramen ovale, but is usually required in combination with other more serious heart diseases.
It is recommended to go to a regular hospital for examination, and the specialist will guide the patient to receive the correct treatment according to the relevant examination results.
