High sodium content can affect weight loss. Consuming too many sodium-containing foods can aggravate the kidneys, which may lead to water and sodium retention, and a high-sodium diet can increase appetite, which is even more detrimental to weight loss. Foods or sauces that are high in sodium can be extra salty and flavorful, which can lead to excessive intake of both staple foods and salt. It also poses the risk of high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease, and is not good for organs such as the kidneys. According to the fifth guideline of our latest Dietary Guidelines (2022), less salt and oil, control sugar and limit alcohol. We are asked to cultivate light eating habits and eat less high-salt foods. Adults consume no more than 5g of salt per day, while our per capita salt use is about 10.5g, which is one of the reasons for the high morbidity and mortality rates of cardiovascular diseases and other diseases in China. So whether from the perspective of weight loss, or to maintain good health, should strictly limit sodium intake.
