What does it mean to see a gas-fecal shadow in the colon?

Gas-fecal shadow visible in the colon is the accumulation of gas and feces in the intestines, which may be due to slowed intestinal peristalsis and intestinal obstruction.
Slowed peristalsis leads to slow passage of intestinal contents, longer retention in the intestines, decomposition of the contents by intestinal bacteria, which produces gas, and absorption of water from the contents by the intestines, causing drying of the contents and difficulty in passage, resulting in the formation of a gas-fecal shadow.
Intestinal obstruction is mostly caused by narrowing of the intestinal lumen or paralysis of intestinal muscles, running weakness, etc., which can be manifested as abdominal pain, vomiting, abdominal distension, and cessation of defecation. When the onset of obstruction is in the colon, the gas and feces in the colon can not be excreted downward, and gas-fecal shadow can be seen.
If the result of the examination is that gas and fecal matter are visible in the colon, it is recommended to clarify the cause of the disease with the help of a doctor and carry out targeted treatment or therapy.
