What department to see for cholecystitis

Cholecystitis can be seen in Gastroenterology or Hepatobiliary Surgery, and acute biliary colic attacks can be seen in the Emergency Department first.
Cholecystitis is often a complication of gallbladder stones, and rarely is non-stone cholecystitis caused by acute inflammation of the gallbladder. The common symptom is biliary colic with pain radiating to the right shoulder, scapula and back, which may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting and jaundice.
Cholecystitis can be seen in gastroenterology or hepatobiliary surgery in tertiary general hospitals, while municipal hospitals or grassroots hospitals can go to internal medicine or general surgery due to the lack of detailed subspecialties. If biliary colic occurs acutely, it can be seen in the emergency department first, and then be further diagnosed and treated after the initial pain relief.
If there are symptoms similar to cholecystitis, such as right upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, etc., it is recommended to consult the doctor in time to avoid delaying the condition.
