Swelling of the baby’s perineal skin may be caused by contact dermatitis, vulvar eczema, infantile vulvovaginitis, and other causes such as trauma.
1. Contact dermatitis: If you often give your baby close clothing with sensitizing or irritating materials, it may lead to contact dermatitis of the perineal skin. At this time, patients will have erythema, papules, edema, blisters, tingling sensation and other manifestations. As a result, the baby’s perineum will show localized skin swelling.
2. Vulvar eczema: the etiology of vulvar eczema is not yet clear, and it is considered to be related to chronic infection, local moisture and other factors. Patients will appear vulvar skin redness, swelling, itching, blisters, oozing and other manifestations. If the baby has vulvar eczema, it may be manifested as swelling of the perineal skin.
3. Infantile vulvovaginitis: Infantile vulvovaginitis may be caused by the fact that infantile vulva is not yet well developed, poor local hygiene habits and other factors that make the vagina susceptible to infection. Patients will have vulvar pain and itching, vulva or vaginal opening congestion, edema. If the baby has infantile vulvovaginitis, there will be symptoms of swollen perineal skin.
Swelling of the perineal skin in babies can also be caused by other reasons such as trauma and diaper dermatitis.
