What to do if your direct bilirubin is high

Elevated direct bilirubin may be caused by cholecystitis, bile duct stones, hepatocellular jaundice, etc. According to the cause, we should give anti-infective drugs such as cefuroxime and other internal treatments, or surgical removal of stones, take liver-protecting drugs such as ursodeoxycholic acid to reduce yellowness and other treatments. 1. Cholecystitis: Due to inflammation of the gallbladder, the contraction function of the gallbladder will be damaged, so that the bile can not be normally excreted into the digestive system, and the bile will enter the blood circulation of the human body, which will lead to the phenomenon of high direct bilirubin. In this case, cefuroxime, cefadroxil, amoxicillin and other anti-infective drugs should be used. 2. Bile duct stones: Stones can cause bile to be unable to be discharged from the gallbladder normally, resulting in cholestasis, causing obstructive jaundice, and increasing the direct bilirubin level in the blood. This condition can be treated by surgical removal of stones. 3. Hepatocellular jaundice: Hepatocellular jaundice refers to the jaundice caused by the accumulation of bilirubin in the blood due to the damage of liver cells and the obstruction of bilirubin uptake, binding and excretion. Hepatocellular jaundice can be caused by both retention of unconjugated bilirubin and reflux of conjugated bilirubin. In this case, ursodeoxycholic acid capsule, adenosylmethionine, glycyrrhizin and other liver-protecting and anti-yellowing medications can be applied. If there is elevated direct bilirubin, you need to go to the hospital as soon as possible for a clear diagnosis and take appropriate measures under the guidance of the doctor.
