What’s wrong with drinking too much water?

Diarrhea is mostly known as diarrhea in clinical practice, and drinking too much water may be a normal physiological phenomenon, or it may be acute gastroenteritis, water intoxication and other pathological factors.
1. Physiological factors: drinking a lot of water will stimulate gastrointestinal peristalsis to accelerate, especially when drinking cold water, will produce stimulation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, resulting in diarrhea.
2. Acute gastroenteritis: If the drinking water is not hygienically qualified, contaminated by bacteria, viruses, parasites and other pathogenic microorganisms, after drinking a large amount of water, it may lead to pathogens infecting the gastrointestinal mucosa, resulting in acute gastroenteritis, which may be manifested by abdominal pain and diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, fever and so on.
2. Water intoxication: mainly due to excessive water intake, more than the amount of water discharged, resulting in a large amount of water retention in the body, so that the plasma osmolality decreased, the amount of circulating blood increased. This will also stimulate the gastrointestinal tract, causing nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and other manifestations.
If the patient’s diarrhea is not relieved for a long time after drinking too much water, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time and receive treatment actively so as not to delay the condition.
