What’s wrong with the swelling on one side of the eye?

Swelling of one side of the eye may be caused by physiological factors, or may be caused by pathological factors such as eye inflammation, allergy and heart disease.
1. Physiological factors: in the case of poor sleep quality or uncomfortable pillows, it is possible to have edema in the eyes. In addition, mosquito bites in summer are also common factors that cause eye swelling.
2. Pathologic factors: inflammation, allergies, systemic diseases, etc. may lead to swelling on one side of the eye.
(1) Inflammation of the eyes: patients with blepharitis and conjunctivitis usually have the symptom of edema of the eyes, and the inflammation of the eyes is usually caused by bacterial infection. Rubbing the eyes with hands, stomach accumulation to remove makeup, and body immunity decline may induce inflammation.
(2) Allergy: When one eye comes into contact with animal hair, dust mites, etc., or when using ointments, eye drops, etc., it may cause allergic symptoms, resulting in redness and swelling.
(3) Systemic diseases: patients with heart disease, nephritis, and hypothyroidism may also be presented with ocular edema.
It is recommended that patients should seek medical treatment in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment after excluding physiological factors.
