Whether it is central facial palsy or peripheral facial palsy, it is not recommended to go running in the acute stage, which will aggravate the facial palsy.
Clinically, facial paralysis can be categorized into central and peripheral facial paralysis.
1. Central facial paralysis may be caused by cerebrovascular diseases or brain tumors, and in the acute stage, bed rest is needed to closely monitor blood pressure, blood glucose and blood lipids, etc. Running may affect the blood pressure, and central facial paralysis may be accompanied by unfavorable limb movements in severe cases, so running is not recommended in the acute stage.
2. Peripheral facial paralysis mostly occurs after catching a cold or flu, if running and sweating in the acute stage, it will aggravate the symptoms of wind on the face, thus aggravating facial paralysis, so running is not recommended in the acute stage. Oral anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce facial nerve edema, such as prednisone, etc., and nutritional nerve drugs, such as methylcobalamin, etc., should be given. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
Note: If facial paralysis has passed the acute stage, it is possible to do appropriate running exercise.
