Swollen ears and pain in half of the face are mostly considered to be caused by herpes zoster or acute inflammation of the ear.
1. Herpes zoster: if the patient’s ear suffers from viral infection and develops herpes zoster, the symptom of swollen and painful ear will appear, and when the herpes in the ear involves the patient’s facial nerve, the pain in the face can appear.
2. Acute inflammation: after the patient’s ear gets into the water, there may be inflammation, causing acute otitis externa, the ear will appear swollen and painful symptoms, when the inflammation of the external auditory canal involved in the lymph nodes in front of the ear, there will be symptoms of facial pain.
