Which sperm tests are needed?

Sperm examination generally refers to semen examination, which usually needs to check semen volume, liquefaction time, sperm survival rate, sperm motility and so on.
1. Semen volume: the normal volume of male semen is 2~6ml, if a man has not ejaculated for 5~7 days and the volume of semen is less than 1.5ml, it is suggestive of paraphysical infection and androgen secretion insufficiency, etc.; if the volume of semen is more than 8ml, it is suggestive of hyperfunction of accessory gonads.
2. Liquefaction time: the liquefaction time of male semen should be within one hour. Failure to liquefy for more than one hour is often seen in vesicoureteral adenitis and vas deferens defects.
3. Sperm survival rate: under normal circumstances, male sperm survival rate should be ≥58%, when the dead sperms in the semen account for 42% of the total number of sperms, it can be diagnosed as Necrotizing Spermatozoa.
4. Sperm motility: it refers to the percentage of spermatozoa with forward motion in semen. It is generally categorized into four grades. When normal, grade 3 (a) spermatozoa are set equal to 25%, or the sum of grade 3 (a) and grade 2 (b) spermatozoa is greater than or equal to 50%.
In addition, semen examination also needs to check the appearance of sperm, acidity and alkalinity, sperm morphology, etc. If the results are abnormal, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time and actively cooperate with the doctor for treatment.
