How to differentiate between benign and malignant cystic adnexal masses

Adnexal cystic masses can be distinguished from benign and malignant by imaging, clinical manifestations, laboratory tests and pathologic examinations.
1. Imaging performance: imaging can make a preliminary judgment on the nature of the adnexal cystic masses, for further judgment, benign cystic masses are generally smooth walls, junctional or malignant general cystic, and cystic walls have papillae, and rich blood flow.
2. Clinical manifestations: benign cystic adnexal masses grow slowly, may disappear gradually with the menstrual cycle, generally no systemic symptoms. Malignant cystic adnexal mass grows fast and usually does not disappear and may be accompanied by abdominal pain, irregular vaginal bleeding and weight loss.
3. Laboratory examination: In the detection of tumor markers, CA125, HE4, CA199, CE4, alpha-fetoprotein and HCG in the serum of malignant adnexal cysticercosis will be elevated, while benign adnexal cysticercosis will not be elevated in general.
4. Pathological examination: pathological diagnosis is the gold standard for determining the benign and malignant nature of cystic masses, mainly based on the cells to determine, if there are malignant tumor cells is malignant, if not is benign, malignant tumor cells usually cell nuclei are heterogeneous and obvious, heterogeneous hyperplasia.
