Both granuloma and chalazion are eyelid diseases, but the location, etiology, clinical manifestations and treatment are different.
1. Location: Blepharitis is an acute purulent inflammation of the eyelid glands, which can occur in the eyelash follicles or period of the accessory sebaceous glands, sweat glands, or glands of the eyelids. Chalazion is a chronic granulomatous inflammation of the glands of the eyelids, which may occur in the eyelash follicles or in the accessory sebaceous glands, or in the glands of the eyelids.
2. Etiology: chalazion is mostly caused by staphylococci, especially Staphylococcus aureus is the most common. Blepharoceles cysts may be caused by chronic blepharitis or chronic conjunctivitis obstructing the outlet of the blepharoplasty, retention of secretions and irritation of the surrounding tissues causing cysts.
3. Clinical manifestations: acute stage of chalazion may have redness, swelling, heat, pain, hardness, swelling and pressure pain, and then there will be yellow pus spots, which will gradually subside and be cured after breakage. Chalazion is mainly manifested as a painless round lump under the eyelid skin, the lump is soft, there may be localized congestion, can be self-absorbed or ulcerated after the formation of granuloma.
4. Treatment: Early stage of chalazion can be localized hot compresses, pus spots can be incised to drain pus treatment, serious need to use amoxicillin and other antibiotics. Chalazion smaller can not be treated, larger hot compresses or injection of glucocorticoids in the cyst to promote the improvement of the long term does not subside can be surgical excision treatment.
Granuloma and chalazion are two different diseases, it is recommended that the patient consult a doctor in a timely manner to clarify the diagnosis and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
