Obese type 2 diabetic patients taking metformin while controlling their diet may experience weight loss, but metformin is not to be used as a weight loss medication, and should be prohibited especially for normal people. There is no data on how many pounds you can lose by taking it for a month. No studies of metformin for weight loss have been conducted in normal populations, so it is inconclusive whether the drug can be used for weight loss. There is no mention of a weight loss effect for healthy people and it is not currently recommended for use as a weight loss drug. Metformin is used in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are not satisfied with dietary control alone, especially those who are obese and with hyperinsulinemia. It is contraindicated in renal dysfunction caused by renal disease, heart failure (shock), acute myocardial infarction and sepsis; in hypersensitivity to metformin hydrochloride; and in pregnant and lactating women. In addition, it is recommended that patients with type 2 diabetes use metformin in accordance with medical advice, and normal people who want to lose weight need to be reasonable under the guidance of a doctor, and shall not apply the drug without authorization to avoid adverse consequences.
