When the umbilical cord does not fall off in a newborn, if there is no infection, you can continue to observe and wait for it to fall off naturally; if there is an infection, you can give anti-inflammatory treatment or re-tie the umbilical cord.
If the umbilical cord does not fall off, it is necessary to observe whether there is any infection, redness, swelling, pus, oozing, etc. at the ligated end of the umbilical cord. If only the umbilical cord does not fall off, the localization has been crusted, without the above symptoms of infection, you can continue to observe for a period of time, waiting for the ligated umbilical cord to fall off by itself.
If the above symptoms of infection are combined, in mild cases, iodine povidone can be used to disinfect and anti-inflammatory on the infected area of the ligated umbilical cord to prevent further infection. However, if the local infection is more serious and pus is obvious, the ligature can be re-ligated. Parents are advised to seek prompt medical attention.
