Can pineal germ cell tumors be treated?

Pineal germ cell tumors are potentially curable in the early stages, but the probability of recurrence is high. In contrast, advanced stages of pineal germ cell tumors are generally incurable.
Pineal germ cell tumors are proliferative tumors originating from the primitive nerves and may have benign lesions or may show malignant tendencies. Therefore, surgical removal of pineal germ cell tumors at an early stage of detection can be curative.
However, due to the high recurrence probability of pineal germ cell tumor itself, tumor recurrence or metastasis may still occur after the first resection, so regular review is needed after treatment.
In contrast, advanced pineal germ cell tumors are generally not completely curable. Late-stage treatment of the tumor usually requires consolidation of the effect with radiotherapy after surgery to achieve a radical effect.
Since pineal germ cell tumor is not sensitive to all kinds of chemotherapeutic drugs or radiotherapy, it is not possible to effectively inhibit the growth and spread of cancer cells through radiotherapy or chemotherapy after surgery. Therefore, advanced pineal germ cell tumor cannot be cured.
After detecting the onset of pineal germ cell tumor, surgery should be carried out as soon as possible and appropriate treatment options should be chosen under the guidance of doctors.
