If there is no contraindication, valsartan and timosartan can be used interchangeably under the guidance of a doctor.
Valsartan and Timosartan are angiotensin II receptor antagonists with similar antihypertensive effects and are mostly used in the treatment of essential hypertension. In most cases, they can be used interchangeably.
However, valsartan should not be used during pregnancy and lactation; and timosartan should not be used in people with biliary tract obstructive disease or severe hepatic or renal insufficiency.
Timosartan has a certain cardiovascular and cerebrovascular protective effect, for the existence of high risk of serious cardiovascular events in hypertensive people, if not necessary, it is generally not recommended to replace timosartan with valsartan.
Therefore, timosartan and valsartan should be evaluated by a doctor to determine whether they can be used interchangeably, and because of the difference in dosage form between the two, they must be taken correctly according to the doctor’s instructions.
