What’s the matter with the sudden tightness in my chest and feeling like I can’t breathe?

Sudden chest tightness feeling out of breath, may be due to physiological factors, or emphysema, asthma and other diseases.
1. Physiological factors: such as sudden emotional excitement, anxiety, irritability, there may be a sudden transient chest tightness, breathlessness, related to the heart transient insufficient blood supply.
2. Emphysema: it is a pathological state in which the elasticity of the airways at the distal end of the terminal fine bronchioles decreases, and the overinflation, inflation and lung volume increase or are accompanied by the destruction of the airway wall at the same time. Smoking, infection and atmospheric pollution cause inflammation of the fine bronchial tubes, lumen narrowing or obstruction, so that the lung passages are narrowed, and symptoms such as chest tightness and shortness of breath will be experienced after the decrease of lung ventilation.
3. Asthma: belongs to the lung disease, when there is a high inflammatory reaction of the airway, allergic reaction occurs, may cause strong contraction or spasm of the bronchial smooth muscle, so that the airways are narrowed, affecting the normal ventilation of the lungs, and ultimately there will be chest tightness, wheezing and other symptoms.
Sudden feeling of chest tightness and wheezing, in addition to the above factors, may also be due to pulmonary atelectasis, goiter, cardiac arrhythmia and other factors. It is recommended to consult respiratory or cardiovascular department as soon as possible, and then diagnose by cardiac ultrasound, bronchoscopy as well as pulmonary function tests.
