How to increase platelets

A healthy body usually does not need to increase platelets. If thrombocytopenia is caused by drug factors, aplastic anemia and leukemia, platelets can be increased by discontinuing drugs, using medications as prescribed by the doctor and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation therapy.
1. Drug factors: drugs such as cyclophosphamide and methotrexate can affect the function of platelets and lower the platelet count. Patients should stop using the drugs or change the drugs as prescribed by the doctor, and avoid using drugs that affect the function of platelets.
2. Leukemia: The abnormal proliferation inhibits the normal hematopoiesis of bone marrow, resulting in the reduction of whole blood cells. If thrombocytopenia is caused by bone marrow suppression after chemotherapy, drugs such as thrombopoietin and interleukin 11 can be used to help increase platelets.
3. Aplastic anemia: Bone marrow hematopoietic failure caused by many reasons, mainly the production of blood cells is impaired, resulting in thrombocytopenia. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation can be considered for patients with severe aplastic anemia without infection and serious complications. This controls the patient’s platelet levels and prevents some complications such as bleeding.
Thrombocytopenia may also have other causes, if the examination found to have thrombocytopenia, further examination should be carried out to clarify the cause of the cause of treatment, taking drugs need to follow the doctor’s advice, not self-medication.
