The sound of water shaking in the abdomen is clinically known as water vibration, which may be a normal physiological phenomenon, or it may be the symptomatic manifestation of certain diseases, such as acute gastric dilatation, intestinal obstruction, pyloric obstruction, etc., and it should be consulted in time to find out the cause of the disease.
1. Physiological phenomenon: for most normal people after meals or drinking a lot of water, there can be vibration of water sounds, a normal physiological phenomenon, generally long fasting or more than 6-8 hours after meals can disappear on their own.
2. Pathologic factors:
(1) Acute gastric dilatation: refers to acute extreme enlargement of the stomach and duodenum by non-mechanical obstruction, accompanied by a large amount of retention of luminal contents. Physical examination reveals a high degree of distension of the epigastric region, often with vibratory water sounds, fullness of the epigastric region, persistent distension, aggravated by paroxysms, and accompanied by eructation, vomiting and other symptoms, and in severe cases, dehydration and alkalosis can also occur.
(2) Intestinal obstruction: patients may have symptoms of abdominal pain, accompanied by high-pitched bowel sounds, when the intestinal lumen has gas and fluid accumulation, the bowel sounds may be air-over-water or metallic sounds, often accompanied by abdominal distension, vomiting and cessation of defecation.
(3) Pyloric obstruction: If the pylorus is narrowed by chronic inflammation or cancer, pyloric obstruction can be formed. Patients may have abdominal distension, hiccups, early satiety, vomiting, acid reflux and other symptoms, and watery sound can be heard when shaking the upper abdomen.
If there is a sound of water shaking in the abdomen for a long time or accompanied by other uncomfortable symptoms, the patient should consult a doctor in time to complete the relevant examinations and have the doctor carry out the treatment.
