Eye depressions caused by fractures of the medial orbital wall usually do not recover on their own, and patients may undergo surgical treatment to facilitate recovery.
When the eye is impacted by a large external force, the soft tissues in the orbit will transmit the impact force to the orbital bone wall, resulting in a fracture of the orbital wall, especially the medial and inferior orbital wall fractures are most common. After the fracture, the soft tissues in the orbit will enter into the fracture defect, thus decreasing the volume of the orbital contents and sinking the eyeball, which usually cannot recover by itself.
Patients with orbital fractures who have sunken eyes need surgical treatment, such as orbital wall repair surgery, to promote recovery and improve appearance.
It is recommended that patients with orbital fractures seek prompt medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions.
