When can newborns drink water

Theoretically, newborns can drink water right after birth, but if there are no special circumstances, there is no need for additional hydration within 6 months, and breastmilk is sufficient to replenish the body’s water needs. For newborns who are exclusively breastfed, additional hydration is not recommended because breast milk already contains about 80% of water, which can satisfy the baby’s body’s need for water. After 6 months of age, as the baby’s body surface area and activity level increase, the demand for water will also increase, so you can supplement water appropriately. It should be noted that within 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding of newborns if there is indigestion, vomiting, fever and other conditions, or the air is relatively dry, etc., the baby’s need for water will increase, so you can also drink some warm water to replenish the body’s need for water. It is recommended to take good care of the baby to pay attention to warmth, avoid cold, if you give the baby to drink water, to avoid tilting the head to drink, need to feed sideways, and do not feed too much at a time, in order to avoid choking the baby. Usually pay attention to observation, if the baby has any physical discomfort, timely to the regular hospital.
