How long it takes to recover from a lung contusion depends on the severity of the lesion, the type of treatment, and the recovery time ranges from 1 week to 3 months. Lung contusion, usually occurs after trauma, such as car accidents, falling from a height and other conditions, because of the sudden impact of the lungs after the relative motion displacement caused by the damage. If it is only a mild lung contusion, it is generally not serious, and only requires sedentary rest, enhanced nutrition, and appropriate anti-infection, and can be recovered in 1 to 2 weeks. In severe lung contusion, most of them are combined with rib fracture, hemopneumothorax, spinal fracture, pelvic fracture, etc. These comorbidities are the main factors affecting the prognosis and recovery time. For the treatment of different comorbidities, some of them require surgical treatment, and the recovery after surgical treatment is faster, which may take 2~4 weeks, and most of the non-surgical people may take more than three months to recover.
