Mitral valve insufficiency. How to treat it.

Mitral valve insufficiency can be treated by internal medicine and surgery as follows:
1. Chronic mitral valve insufficiency or asymptomatic may not require treatment.
2. For acute severe mitral valve insufficiency leading to regurgitation, patients may have symptoms of heart failure and may even go into shock. The purpose of medical treatment is to reduce regurgitation, lower pulmonary venous pressure and increase cardiac output. Treatment can be carried out by dilating the arteries with drugs such as sodium nitroprusside and phentolamine. Intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation can be used to treat hypotension.
3. Surgery is the fundamental treatment for mitral valve insufficiency and should be performed before irreversible damage to left ventricular function occurs. Commonly used surgical methods include mitral valve repair, the former for less severe valve damage and the latter for more severe valve damage.
Therefore, when mitral valve insufficiency is found, it can be checked and treated in hospital in time to avoid delaying the condition.
